Rosa’s night

This was Tomáš Rosický’s night, as the living legend played in the club’s starting line-up after seventeen years, scored a goal after seventeen minutes of play and his team defeated Karviná 2-0.

Srdjan Plavšić also returned to the squad after recovering from an injury and came on as a sub later in the match, actually replacing Rosický. Lukáš Štetina was not available due to sickness.

Sparta were in control of the match and David Lafata wasted their first chance, sliding to hit a cross from the right, but just missing the goal with his shot. Rosický was much more successful after seventeen minutes of play, hitting another cross from the right and beating Karviná keeper Berkovec. It was his first goal for Sparta after coming back home after his spells in Dortmund and Arsenal.

Karviná, however, were dangerous, too, creating a couple of good scoring opportunities. Dúbravka did not have that much work though, as both Letić and Ramirez missed the goal completely in their biggest chances.

The Slovak keeper had to make his first big save of the night early in the second half, tipping a nice shot by Budínský just wide of the post.

On the other side, Berkovec made some nice saves on efforts by Lafata and Sáček, but was hopeless, when a corner kick from the left bounced to David Hovorka in front of the goal, who tapped it in easily to double the lead for the home side.

Sparta then controlled the play until the final whistle. They could even increase the score, bur Berkovec denied Plavšić from a breakaway and Václav Kadlec tipped the rebound wide. Anyway, the three points were well deserved for Sparta this time.
