Holiday is over, it’s time to start training again! Winter training started on Monday January 4 with fitness tests at Charles University. Then the team trained for the first time the day after, at the club’s training grounds at Strahov.

Ondřej Zahustel together with Ondřej Mazuch, who both signed their contracts with Sparta in December, trained for the first time with their new team (Ondřej Mazuch has actually been practicing with Sparta since July, recovering from a knee injury, but signed his contract in late December).

Josef Hušbauer was the only player leaving in December, switching for city rivals, Slavia Prague. Franci Litsingi, Marco Paixao and Markus Steinhöfer still remain Sparta players, but are free to negotiate with another club. Only Paixao and Steinhöfer started the winter training with the squad.

Most of the players away on loan will stay with their teams until the end of the season. Adam Jánoš is the only exception, as his loan in Jihlava ended and Adam will fight for his chance at Sparta, being valuable defensive midfielder or a right back.

Matěj Pulkrab has been promoted from the U19 squad, being one of the team’s key elements in this season’s campaign. The U19 team leads the Czech top division, placing 1st after 21 matches, being 24 points clear on top. Pulkrab is the team’s captain and the leading striker, having scored 25 goals in 20 matches.

Sparta will face 2nd division side Ústí nad Labem on January 13, before facing German giant Borussia Dortmund on January 19 in Essen. After coming back home, Sparta will take on Trenčín (20/1) and Vlašim (22/1), and then leave to Jerez, Spain for ten days for a training camp. After returning to the Czech capital, Slovak side MŠK Žilina will be their last opponent ahead of the first competition match of 2016.
