At the very beginning of the 2017-2018 season, Sparta face Crvena Zvezda in a tough match in Belgrade and expect a hard battle.

„We’re all happy the season starts, and it’s a pretty tough start for sure. But as far as I know, everyone in the dressing room is looking forward to it. The new signings have a lot of experience with matches like this, which could help a lot,“ said the captain David Lafata.

Andrea Stramaccioni has solved all the questions in his line-up, except for Ondřej Zahustel, whose start on the bench is still not sure.

Michal Kadlec has not travelled with the team, as well as Václav Kadlec, who – however – is not ruled out with injury.

“He’s not on the list, because he was not doing what I expected of him. That’s what I told him in our personal discussion, and I have decided to go with two strikers on our list – Lafata and Janko,” Stramaccioni said at the pre-match press conference in Belgrade.

On the other side, the manager has the newest signings available, as both Mavuba and Mandjec are in Belgrade with the team, as well as Tal Ben Chaim, who has almost recovered from his injury.

“The good news is that Tal has joined the team in full training this week, but he will not start from the beginning,” Stramaccioni said.

The team is ready and expects a hard battle on Thusday night, especially with the Crvena Zvezda fans at the stadium. Expected attendance is between 35-40.000 spectators, including 170 fans at the away end.

“The players do not need to be reminded how loud the fans can be over here, every one of them is experienced enough to deal with that. It can also be a motivation for our fans to make a similar atmosphere next week in Prague. However, I believe we will be strong enough to make the first step this Thursday,” the manager added.
