Sparta lost 1-3 in their second summer friendly against reigning Slovak champions AS Trenčín. The visitors scored two game-deciding goals in the beginning and at the end of the first half, while Sparta were struggling with finishing their goal chances.

Sparta’s three-man defence, playing with Mazuch, Holek and Costa, conceded after only seven minutes into the match, when Gino Van Kessel found Kalu’s cross ang gave Bičík no chance with a powerful header.

Sparta could answer right back, but Kehinde Fatai got denied three times by Trenčín’s goalkeeper Chovan. First, from a breakaway, then after some clever passing by Frýdek and Matějovský.

Then, only a couple of minutes before the halftime break, Holek brought down Janga in the box and Bero doubled Trenčín’s lead from a penalty kick.

Shortly after the second half started, Trenčín scored one more. Van Kessel took advantage of a misunderstanding in Sparta’s defence and scored comfortably from a rebound to give his side a 3-0 lead.

Sparta were able to put the visitors under a pressure a number of times, but were struggling with converting their chances. Čermák hit a defender standing on the goal line, Schick only hit Trenčín’s goalkeeper with his shot, and Martin Frýdek hit the post.

Finally, in the 76th minute, Michal Sáček finished a nice passing play in the middle of the field and scored his first goal for Sparta’s A-team.

Shortly before the final whistle, Diks hit the post and another penalty by Bero was saved by Bičík, so the visitors’ lead stayed intact.
