Sparta suffered a 1-2 loss in the second leg of the MOL Cup semifinal and got eliminated from the competition. However, there was much more to talk about on a Wednesday evening.

Most of the first team’s squad was either injured or recovering from an injury, and as there’s a big league match ahead on the weekend, the coaches decided to give a chance to the future. The team consisted of U19 and junior players, who already became Czech champions this year.  Marek Štěch was the captain and the oldest players on the team.

Young squad put up a brilliant aggressive performance and the players showed their talent. Sáček had the first big opportunity of the match, but he only hit one of Jablonec defenders after a lovely run by Záviška. The same player could score at the end of the first half, but his redirected shot was saved by Jablonec goalkeeper Hrubý.

Despite that, it was Jablonec to start scoring. Wágner and Doležal scored with headers after two similar crosses from the right and gave their team a 2-0 halftime lead.

But Sparta did not give up and Daniel Turyna scored a lovely goal early in the second half, beating Hrubý from outside the box.

17-years old Christián Frýdek got on the pitch later in the match, becoming third member of his family to play for Sparta. His father is a Sparta legend, and his brother, Martin, is a current A-team player.

However, the young squad could not resists and after a 1-2 loss Sparta were eliminated from the cup competition.
