Sparta lost another friendly in Austria. Against Rubin, they conceded twice in the first fifteen minutes and were unable to come back.

The first minutes were decisive, as Kanunnikov converted a nice cross from the left to give the Russian side an early lead.

Seven minutes later, Devic doubled the lead for Rubin, netting a redirected shot from a free kick and the situation became critical. Sparta were struggling to beat Rubin’s defensive line and could not create any major chance in the first half.

Kanunnikov failed in Rubin’s first chance in the second half, missing by inches after a nice through-pass behind the defence, and so it’s was Sparta’s turn.

David Lafata, who came on in the halftime, headed the ball after a corner and aimed well, but one of Rubin’s defenders cleared the ball almost from the goalline. Kehinde Fatai had another good opportunity after Zahustel knocked the ball down for him in the box, but Nigerian striker did not get enough space.

Sparta lost 0-2 to Rubin in their second ‘Austrian’ friendly.
